Spain: Housing permits plunge in August
The Spanish Board of Architects approved 5,114 new construction permits in August, according to data published by the Ministry of Public Works. The figure was below both the 5,953 permits granted in August 2018 and the 11,967 permits granted in July. On an annual basis, permits plunged 14.1% in August, following July’s 1.7% dip and marking the fourth consecutive month of decline.
The moving three-month sum of permits totaled 26,539 in August, which represented a 4.4% drop from the same period last year and followed the 1.8% contraction recorded in July. The current number of permits represents a mere fraction of the 268,266 permits that were granted during the July–September 2006 peak.
