Spain: Housing permits increase in April
The Spanish Board of Architects approved 9,175 new construction permits in April, according to data published by the Ministry of Public Works. The figure was above the 4,299 permits granted in April 2020 and the 8,603 permits granted in March 2021. On an annual basis, permits skyrocketed 113.4%, mainly due to a low base effect, following March’s 34.4% jump.
Meanwhile, the moving three-month sum of permits totaled 25,596 in April, which represented a 28.9% increase from the same period of 2020 and followed the 0.6% dip recorded in March. The current number of permits represents a mere fraction of the 268,266 permits granted during the July–September 2006 peak amid a booming housing market in the leadup to the global financial crisis.
