South Africa: Inflation eases in January
Consumer prices rose 0.20% over the previous month in January, slowing from the 0.57% increase seen in December. January’s moderation came on the back of declining prices for transport.
Inflation cooled to 5.7% in January, down from December’s over four-year high of 5.9%. Still, annual average inflation rose to 4.8% in January (December: 4.6%). Lastly, core inflation rose to 3.5% in January, from the previous month’s 3.4%.
