Slovenia: Industrial output plummets in December
Industrial output dived 10.2% in year-on-year terms in December, which was a deterioration from November’s 2.3% decrease. December’s downturn was broad-based, reflecting sharper contractions in energy production—which declined at the fastest pace in seven months—and manufacturing. Meanwhile, mining and quarrying expanded at a slower pace at the tail end of 2023.
However, the trend improved slightly, with the annual average variation of industrial production coming in at minus 5.3% in December, up from November’s minus 5.4%. On a monthly basis, factory output plummeted 7.4% in seasonally adjusted terms in December, contrasting November’s 3.7% expansion and marked the worst result since July.
