Slovakia: Inflation jumps in May
Consumer prices rose 0.80% over the previous month in May, picking up from the 0.20% increase recorded in April. May’s reading marked the sharpest increase in prices since January 2020. Looking at the details of the release, the print largely reflected stronger price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as for housing and utilities.
Inflation increased to 2.2% in May, following April’s 1.6%. May’s figure represented the highest inflation rate since March 2020. Meanwhile, the trend was unchanged, with annual average inflation coming in at April’s 1.6% in May. Lastly, harmonized inflation rose to 2.0% in May, from April’s 1.7%.
