Russia: Inflation eases in May from April
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 5.3% in annual terms in May, following a 5.6% rise in the prior month. May’s reading was the weakest since August 2023.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, price pressures reduced for food and beverages in May (+2.9% in annual terms vs +4.0% in April). In contrast, there were higher price pressures for non-food goods (+4.2% vs +3.9% in April) and services (+10.1% vs +9.9% in April).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices increased 4.9% on a year-on-year basis in May, following a 5.0% increase in the prior month.
Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.17% in May in month-on-month terms, following a 0.14% increase in the prior month.
