Romania: Inflation accelerates in May from April
Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 10.9% in annual terms in May, following a 10.7% increase in the prior month. May’s reading was the strongest since April 2023.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for non-food goods (+12.5% on a year-on-year basis vs +12.0% in April) and services (+13.5% vs +13.0% in April). In contrast, price pressures reduced for food in May (+6.8% vs +7.4% in April).
Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.58% in May in month-on-month terms, following a 0.84% rise in the previous month.
