Romania: Inflation hits over-decade high in December

Consumer prices increased 0.71% month-on-month in December, after flatlining in November. December’s result largely reflected higher prices for food, non-food products and for services.

Inflation accelerated to 8.2% in December, up from 7.8% in November, logging the highest reading in over a decade. Accordingly, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 5.1% in December from 4.5% in November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see inflation averaging 5.7% in 2022, which is up 0.6 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2023, panelists see inflation averaging 3.6%.
