Poland: Business sentiment rebounds strongly at the start of the new year
Manufacturing-sector business confidence bounced back in January, according to the business tendency indicator released by Statistics Poland. January’s business climate indicator rose to plus 3.2 from minus 4.9 in December. The indicator thus moved above the zero mark that distinguishes pessimism from optimism in the manufacturing sector.
January’s rebound came on the back of a broad-based improvement in businesses’ expectations of future conditions and their assessment of current conditions. Firms’ expectations regarding the future general economic situation, production levels, orders books and employment all strengthened, although they remained in negative terrain. Moreover, firms’ assessment of their current general economic situation surged and moved strongly from negative to optimistic territory. Additionally, companies’ assessments of their production levels, order books and financial situation improved, even tough they remained pessimistic.
