Mexico: Inflation comes in at highest level since January 2001 in November
Consumer prices increased 1.14% in November over the previous month, picking up from October’s 0.84% rise. November’s result marked the highest reading since January 2017. Looking at the details of the release, transportation prices rose at a quicker pace in November compared to the previous month, while price pressures for housing eased.
Inflation increased to 7.4% in November, above October’s 6.2% and well above the Central Bank’s 2.0%–4.0% target range. November’s result represented the highest inflation rate since January 2001. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 5.3% in November (October: 5.0%). Lastly, core inflation rose to 5.7% in November, from October’s 5.2%.
