Malaysia: Industrial output notches quickest growth since May 2023 in January

Industrial production increased 4.2% year on year in January from December’s flat reading. January’s print marked the best reading since May 2023 and reflected a broad-based improvement, with activity in the manufacturing, mining and quarrying, and electricity and gas sub-sectors all improving in January.

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, factory output rose 1.1% in January (December: -2.6% mom s.a.). Meanwhile, the trend improved slightly, with the annual average growth of industrial production coming in at 1.0% in January, up from December’s 0.7% reading.
