Kenya: Inflation comes in at highest level since October 2023 in January
Inflation inched up to 6.9% in January from December’s 6.6%, marking the highest inflation rate since October 2023. The result was driven by brisker increases in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, clothing, and housing and utilities.
Accordingly, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation ticking down to 7.5% in January (December: 7.7%).
Finally, consumer prices rose 0.44% over the previous month in January, accelerating from the 0.38% increase logged in December. January’s uptick was the highest reading since October 2023.
