Kazakhstan: Inflation comes in at highest level since April 1997 in February
Inflation increased to 21.3% in February, above January’s 20.7%, marking the 15th straight month of increase. February’s reading was the highest inflation rate since April 1997.
Looking at the details of the release, the rise was driven by an acceleration in price pressures for food, non-food goods and services. Moreover, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 16.9% in February (January: 15.9%).
Lastly, consumer prices increased 1.3% over the previous month in February, which was higher than January’s 1.1% increase, signaling inflationary pressures are not yet decelerating.
