Japan: Industrial activity shows signs of life in June
Industrial production increased 2.7% in June in month-on-month seasonally-adjusted terms, contrasting the 8.9% decrease in May. This latest reading marks the first increase in five months and was driven by stronger manufacturing output.
On an annual basis, factory output fell 17.7% in June, after falling 26.3% in May. The trend pointed down, with the annual average variation of industrial production coming in at minus 7.9% in June, down from May’s 6.8%.
