Japan: Consumer confidence drops to over one-year low in October
Consumer confidence came in at 29.9 in October, down from September’s 30.8. October’s result marked the weakest sentiment since January 2021. As such, the index remained entrenched below the 50-threshold, signaling that consumers were pessimistic.
The headline print reflected declines in all subcomponents of the consumer confidence index. Consumers became more pessimistic about the next 12 months concerning their overall livelihoods, income growth, employment and willingness to buy durable goods.
