Italy: Economic sentiment increases in May
Latest reading: Economic sentiment rose to 97.8 in May, following April’s 97.7. The latest reading was below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
In May, sentiment improved in among consumers (-21.3 vs -23.8 in April). In contrast, sentiment darkened in the construction sector (-0.5 vs -0.4 in April), the services sector (+4.1 vs +5.6 in April) and the retail sector (+8.9 vs +9.5 in April). Sentiment in the industrial sector was unchanged from April at -6.8.
