Ireland: Industrial production accelerates in April
Latest reading: Industrial production rose 1.2% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in April, following 0.7% growth in the previous month.
Relative to the previous month’s data, readings in April improved for modern sector (+2.0% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms vs +1.2% in March) and traditional sector (+2.3% vs -3.2% in March).
The modern sector’s output tends to be volatile—even more so now as U.S. tariffs wreak havoc on trade flows—due to the presence of multinational-dominated industries, such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and computers and electronics.
On a year-on-year basis, industrial production declined 3.3% in April, following a 23.0% drop in the prior month.
