Ireland: GDP records sharpest contraction since Q4 2020 in the first quarter

According to a preliminary estimate, GDP dropped 2.7% on a seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter basis in the first quarter, contrasting the 0.3% expansion recorded in the fourth quarter of last year. Q1’s reading marked the worst result since Q4 2020. On an annual basis, economic growth lost steam, cooling to 6.4% in Q1, from the previous quarter’s 12.0% increase. Q1’s reading marked the slowest growth since Q4 2020.
