Germany: Economic sentiment falls in February
Economic sentiment fell to 89.0 in February from January’s 89.6. As a result, the index remained entrenched below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a downbeat near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected languished sentiment in the industrial sector and weaker sentiment in the construction sector. In the meantime, confidence in the services sector waned in February, while sentiment in the retail sector increased in the surveyed month. Finally, consumer confidence increased in February.
Considering indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations weakened, while the economic uncertainty index fell in February.
