Germany: Business confidence rises but remains pessimistic in January
Business confidence rose to 90.2 in January from December’s 88.6. January’s result marked the best performance since June. Despite the uptick, the index remained below the 100-threshold, separating pessimism from optimism among businesses.
The improvement in January was driven by firms in all sectors becoming less pessimistic about future business conditions. Less positively, firms in the construction, services, and wholesaling sectors became more pessimistic about present business conditions.
