France: Harmonized inflation inches up in January

February 20, 2020

Consumer prices fell 0.4% in January after rising 0.4% in December, according to a second estimate by Statistical Institute (INSEE). The downturn reflected lower prices for manufactured products due to winter sales.

Harmonized consumer prices decreased 0.5% month-on-month in January (December: +0.5%), while harmonized inflation came in at 1.7% (December: 1.6%). Meanwhile, annual average harmonized inflation was steady at December’s 1.3%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect harmonized inflation to average 1.3% in 2020, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2021, panelists see harmonized inflation averaging 1.4%.
