France: Industrial activity stabilizes in May

July 5, 2022

Industrial output flatlined on a month-on-month seasonally-adjusted terms in May, improving from April's 0.3% decrease. The softer drop came on the back of an improvement in manufacturing and mining and quarrying output.

On an annual basis, industrial output fell 0.4% in May, moderating somewhat from April’s 0.6% fall. Meanwhile, the trend pointed down, with the annual average growth of industrial production coming in at a one-year low of 1.0% in May, down from April's 2.5% reading.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project industrial output to grow 0.6% in 2022, which is down 0.8 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2023, panelists see industrial output growth at 1.4%.
