Ecuador: Inflation picks up in January

Consumer prices increased 0.47% over the previous month in January, following a 0.10% month-on-month rise in December. Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded the biggest upturn in prices, followed by transport. On the other hand, prices for health, and recreation and culture declined the most.

Inflation also picked up, rising to 0.5% in January from 0.3% in December. Consumer prices returned to growth for the first time in over a year in September. Meanwhile, the annual average variation in consumer prices remained at minus 0.2% in January.
