Dominican Republic: Inflation declines to lowest level since June 2020 in February
Inflation came in at 3.3% in February, unchanged from January’s figure. February’s reading marked the weakest inflation rate since June 2020. Looking at the details of the release, the change in prices for food was broadly stable in February. Prices for transport were mostly steady from the previous month’s reading. Moreover, prices for housing dropped.
The trend pointed down, with annual average inflation coming in at 4.2% in February (January: 4.5%). Meanwhile, core inflation edged down to 4.0% in February, from the previous month’s 4.1%.
Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.09% in February over the previous month, below the 0.39% increase seen in January. February’s result marked the softest rise in prices since May 2023.
