Chile: Inflation comes in at highest level since August 2015 in August
Consumer prices rose 0.40% in August over the previous month, coming in below July’s 0.81% increase. The result was driven by moderating price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages and easing price pressures for transportation. In addition, prices for healthcare dropped.
Inflation inched up to 4.8% in August, above July’s 4.5%. August’s figure was the highest inflation rate since August 2015. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 3.4% in August (July: 3.2%). Lastly, core inflation ticked up to 3.8% in August, from July’s 3.6%.
