Chile: Decline in economic activity softens in December
Economic activity decreased 1.0% in year-on-year terms in December, which was an improvement from November’s 2.5% decrease. December’s smaller drop was largely driven by a rebound in the mining sector. In addition, the non-mining sector contracted at a softer rate.
On a monthly basis, economic activity increased 0.4% in seasonally adjusted terms in December, contrasting November’s 0.8% fall. Meanwhile, the trend pointed down, with the annual average growth of economic activity coming in at an over one-year low of 2.7% in December, down from November’s 3.6% reading.
