Chile: Consumer confidence hits highest reading since August 2018 in December
Consumer confidence jumped to 106.9 in December from November’s 97.0. December’s result marked the best reading since August 2018. As a result, the index lies above the 100-point threshold, separating optimism from pessimism among consumers.
The headline print reflected more optimism regarding the current situation and an improvement in consumers’ views of the future situation, although views on the future remained subdued nonetheless. Over Q4 as a whole consumer confidence averaged notably higher than in Q3, likely supported by fiscal stimulus and a tumbling unemployment rate, boding well for private spending in the period.
