Brazil: Economic activity shrinks in June
Latest reading: Economic activity—a proxy for GDP—was down 0.6% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in June, following a flat reading in the previous month. June’s reading was the weakest since May 2025.
Relative to the previous month’s data, readings in June worsened for the industrial sector (-1.4% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs +0.5% in May) and the services sector-which accounts for roughly 60% of GDP- (-0.5% vs +0.1% in May). In contrast, the reading for the agricultural sector improved in June (+1.0% vs -0.7% in May).
In annual terms, economic activity increased 2.3% in June, following 0.9% growth in the prior month.
