Brazil: Consumer confidence improves but remains pessimistic in June
The seasonally-adjusted consumer confidence index published by the Getulio Vargas Foundation jumped to 80.9 in June from May’s 76.2. June’s result marked the best reading since November 2020. Despite the upturn, however, the index remained below the 100-point threshold, signaling pessimism among consumers.
June’s upturn came on the back of an improvement in consumers’ assessments of the current economic situation. In addition, their sentiment regarding the future economic situation turned less negative.
