Belarus Inflation January 2020

Belarus: Inflation remains stable in January

Consumer prices rose 0.9% over the previous month in January, accelerating slightly from December’s 0.5% uptick and marking the strongest increase in nearly a year. The upturn was chiefly driven by faster food price growth and a slightly stronger increase in prices for non-food goods. Meanwhile, services price growth lost some pace in January.

Inflation was unchanged at the previous month’s 18-month low of 4.7% in January, thus remaining below the Central Bank’s 5.0% target. Meanwhile, annual average inflation ticked down to 5.5% at the outset of the year, from 5.6% in December.
