Belarus: Industrial production picks up steam in December
Industrial production jumped 4.3% on an annual basis in December, accelerating from the 1.7% increase logged in November.
December’s print marked the strongest increase since September 2018 and was chiefly driven by robust output growth in the all-important manufacturing sector. Furthermore, the water supply sector continued to expand at a healthy clip, and mining and quarrying activity rebounded from November’s contraction. On a less positive note, contraction in the utilities supply sector deepened in December, weighing on the headline figure.
Lastly, annual average growth in industrial production ticked up to 1.0% in December, from 0.8% in November.
