Austria: Economic sentiment rises to a six-month high in January
Economic sentiment rose to 86.9 in January from December’s 84.1. Despite the uptick, the index remained entrenched below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
The headline print reflected improved sentiment in the industrial and services sectors in the surveyed month. Meanwhile, weaker sentiment in the construction and retail sectors capped the overall improvement. Lastly, consumer sentiment weakened in January.
Relating to indicators that are not used to calculate the index, employment expectations deteriorated, while the economic uncertainty index fell in January.
