Austria: Consumer sentiment remains pessimistic in December
Austrian consumers remained firmly pessimistic in December, with the consumer confidence index stable at November’s minus 4.
December’s print reflected more upbeat views on households’ financial situation in the past and next 12 months being offset by a deterioration in sentiment regarding the general economic situation. Furthermore, households’ willingness to save in the year ahead decreased, which could be linked to the ECB’s ultra-loose monetary policy making saving less appealing.
