Austria: Consumer confidence moves deeper into negative territory in September
Consumer confidence came in at minus 32.0 in September, down from August’s minus 31.0. As such, the index moved further below the neutral 0-threshold that separates pessimism from optimism among consumers.
The headline deterioration came on the back of more downbeat views on the financial situation of households in the year ahead, while attitudes towards to the general economic situation over the past and the next 12 months worsened as well. Consumers are also more likely to save at present and in the year ahead, which should weigh on private consumption.
