Australia: Unemployment inches up in July
Seasonally-adjusted employment rose by 114,700 in July, following a revised 228,400 jobs gain in June (previously reported: 210,800). July’s result was driven by a solid rise in both part-time and full-time employment.
Meanwhile, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate inched up to 7.5% in July, from June’s 7.4%, the highest level since November 1998. Moreover, the participation rate rose by 0.6 percentage points to 64.7% in July, as more people went looking for work. Meanwhile, the seasonally-adjusted underemployment rate declined 0.5 percentage points to 11.2%.
