Malaysia: Inflation falls again in April

Consumer prices in April rose 0.4% over the previous month after falling 0.6% in March. The monthly increase was driven by a sharp increase in the price of transportation, while prices for health and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels observed the largest declines.

Inflation fell drastically from 2.6% in March to 2.1% in April, the lowest figure in 11 months. The tally undershot market expectations of a 2.2% reading. Annual average inflation in April was level with March’s reading of 2.8%

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 2.9% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2017, the panel sees inflation rising to 2.7%.
