Slovenia: Inflation edges down in July

Consumer prices declined 0.9% over the previous month in July, after coming in flat in June. Five out of the 12 sub-components recorded a fall in prices, four saw a rise in prices, and two came in flat from the previous month. Prices for restaurants and hotels increased the most, while prices for clothing and footwear registered the biggest fall.

Inflation edged down to 1.9% in July from 2.1% in June. Harmonized consumer prices fell 0.8% over the previous month in July after coming in flat in June. Meanwhile, harmonized inflation edged down to 2.1% in July from 2.3% in June. Annual average harmonized inflation in July inched up to 1.7% from 1.6% in June.

The Central Bank expects harmonized consumer prices to average 2.0% in 2018 and 2.2% in 2019. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect harmonized inflation to average 1.9% in 2018, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. In 2019, the panel expects HICP to also average 1.9%.
