October 14, 2021

Consumer prices increased 0.82% in September over the previous month, picking up from August's 0.38% rise. September's uptick was the highest reading since May. The figure was driven in part by rising prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Inflation came in at 4.6% in September, up from August’s 3.8%. September's reading was the highest inflation rate since November 2011. Meanwhile, the trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 2.2% in September (August: 1.9%). Finally, harmonized inflation rose to 4.0% in September, from August’s 3.3%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect harmonized inflation to average 2.5% in 2022, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate, and 2.3% in 2023.
