Germany: Harmonized inflation rises in November
German harmonized consumer prices fell 0.8% month-on-month in November, contrasting the 0.1% monthly price increase in October. The drop in prices came mainly on the back of markedly cheaper recreation and culture, while price tags for alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as restaurants and hotels also came down modestly. On the other hand, food and non-alcoholic beverages became pricier while transport costs were unchanged despite a softer drop in fuel prices.
Harmonized inflation, meanwhile, rose from 0.9% in October to 1.2%, marking a five-month high. Annual average harmonized inflation edged down to 1.4% in November from 1.5% in the prior month, however. Lastly, consumer price inflation was stable at October’s 1.1% in November, the lowest reading since February 2018, while annual average consumer price inflation was also stable at the prior month’s reading of 1.5% in November.
