Romania: Industrial production slows in October

December 14, 2015

Industrial output rose a timid 0.1% in October over the same month last year, coming in below September’s 3.9% rise and marking the smallest expansion in five months. According to the National Institute of Statistics, the slowdown mainly reflected decelerations in manufacturing and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning. Moreover, mining and quarrying recorded a deeper contraction in October.

On a month-on-month basis, industrial production fell 0.08% in October, which contrasted the 1.14% increase tallied in the previous month. Annual average growth in industrial production receded from 2.9% in September to 2.6% in October.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 3.4% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. The panel estimates that industrial output will increase 4.5% in 2016, which is also unchanged from last month’s Consensus.
