Poland: Retail sales growth moderates in May

June 25, 2019

Nominal retail sales rose 7.3% year-on-year in May, coming in below April’s 13.6% jump. May’s expansion was broad-based, with the fastest increases recorded for sales of furniture, radio, TV and household appliances; pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and orthopedic equipment; and motorcycles.

Consequently, annual average growth in nominal retail sales inched down to 7.8% in April from 7.9% in May, which had marked the highest reading in four months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 4.1% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2020, the panel sees private consumption growing 3.4%.
