Peru: Merchandise exports decline in October
Merchandise exports fell 9.2% over the same month last year in October (September: -4.6% year-on-year). The outturn marked the sharpest drop since July 2020. Meanwhile, merchandise imports soared 12.2% on an annual basis in October (September: +16.0% yoy), marking the weakest reading since May 2022.
As a result, the merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 0.4 billion surplus in October (September 2022: USD 0.7 billion surplus; October 2021: USD 1.4 billion surplus). Lastly, the trend pointed down, with the 12-month trailing merchandise trade balance recording a USD 11.2 billion surplus in October, compared to the USD 12.3 billion surplus in September.
