Peru: Inflation ticks up in July

Consumer prices in Metropolitan Lima rose 0.46% from the previous month in July, contrasting June’s 0.27% fall. July’s increase was principally driven by rising food and drink, and housing and utility costs, partially offset by a continued fall in transport prices.

Inflation increased to 1.9% in July from 1.6% in June, thus moving closer to the midpoint of the Central Bank’s 1.0–3.0% target. Meanwhile, the trend inched down this month, with annual average inflation coming in at 1.8% in July (June: 1.9%). Core inflation, however, rose to 1.8% from June’s 1.7%.
