Netherlands: Consumer confidence falls to record low in September
Consumer confidence fell to minus 59.0 in September from August’s minus 54.0. September’s result marked the weakest sentiment on record. Consequently, the index moved further below the 0-threshold, pointing to worsening sentiment among consumers.
The headline deterioration was driven by greater pessimism regarding the economic climate in the past and the next 12 months. Propensity to buy also suffered a setback in the month, with consumers’ views on their financial situation in the past and the next year deteriorating. Consumers were also less likely to purchase big-ticket items.
