Latvia: Inflation comes in at highest level since March 2009 in December
Consumer prices increased 0.34% from the previous month in December, which was below the 1.05% increase seen in November. December’s result marked the weakest reading in a year. The moderation was broad-based, with reduced price pressures recorded for food and non-alcoholic beverages, transportation, and housing and utilities.
Inflation increased to 7.9% in December, following November’s 7.5%. December’s reading was the highest inflation rate since March 2009. Annual average inflation rose to 3.3% in December (November: 2.6%). Finally, harmonized inflation rose to 7.9% in December, from November’s 7.4%.
