Kazakhstan: Inflation edges down in December

Consumer prices rose 0.7% over the previous month in December, down from a 0.9% month-on-month increase in November. Lower prices for non-food products were behind the more moderate increase, whereas price for food rose.

Inflation edged down to 7.1% in December from 7.3% in November. Annual average inflation fell accordingly, from 7.6% in November to 7.4% in December—the lowest rate in a year.

In 2018, the Central Bank expects inflation to stay within its 5.0%–7.0% target band. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to end 2018 at 6.2%, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. The panel expects inflation to edge down to 5.5% by the end of 2019.
