Kazakhstan: Inflation comes in at highest level since March 2000 in December
Inflation increased to 20.3% in December, above Novembers 19.6%, the 12th straight month of increase. December’s reading was the highest inflation rate since March 2000. Looking at the details of the release, the increase was broad-based: prices for food, transport, clothing and housing increased at a quicker rate in December.
The trend pointed up, with annual average inflation coming in at 15.0% in December (November: 14.0%).
Lastly, consumer prices increased 1.24% over the previous month in December, which was below November’s 1.42% increase. December’s result marked the weakest reading since July.
