Japan: Industrial output dips in December

Industrial output fell 1.0% month-on-month in seasonally-adjusted terms in December, contrasting the 7.0% growth clocked in November that had marked an over 30-year high.

On an annual basis, industrial output grew 2.7% in December, which was significantly below November’s 5.1% expansion. As such, annual average industrial production growth came in at 5.8% for 2021 as a whole, rebounding strongly from the 10.3% contraction recorded in 2020.
