Italy: Inflation at over 3-year low in April on falling energy prices
Consumer prices inched up 0.1% month-on-month in April, matching March’s uptick, according to preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute (ISTAT) on 30 April. The figure mainly reflected higher prices for food including alcohol and tobacco, which more than offset lower prices for energy products and, transports and communications. Meanwhile, inflation inched down from 0.1% in March to an over 3-year low of 0.0% in April.
Core consumer prices, which exclude more volatile categories such as unprocessed food and energy, jumped 0.6% from the previous month in April, following March’s softer 0.3% increase. Meanwhile, core inflation was stable at March’s 0.7%, while harmonized inflation was also unchanged at 0.1% in April.
