Indonesia: Retail sales growth slides in December

In December, retail sales increased 0.7% over the same month of the previous year, which was notably below November’s 2.5% rise and marked a five-month low. Sales of household equipment, information and communication equipment, and motor vehicles, parts and accessories all fell in December, weighing on overall growth.
The trend continued to point downwards in December and annual average growth came in at a multi-year low of 2.9% (November: 3.7%). According to the survey, retailers expect sales to rebound in January and grow a faster 1.4%.
Indonesia Private Consumption Forecast
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see private consumption rising 5.1% in 2018, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2019, panelists see growth in private consumption broadly steady at 5.2%.
